for the past few months we have been planning mom's 50th surprise party. this was hands down, one of the hardest things i have ever done. mostly because this is usually something we would plan together. josh and krissy were so kind to offer their new home to host the party.

my sweet friend heather made this awesome "50" display out of paper flowers. we hung it on the front door...too bad she didnt even enter thru that door. way to go dad!

sunday salsa

i decided to make my own salsa. my friend roro brought some that she made to paint night. it was so yummy! i scoured several recipes and methods, combined a few and set off for the grocery. the first step was to chop the onion, green bell pepper, jalapeno, and tomato.
above is one of my favorite tools in the kitchen, love it. it chopped the jalapenos so finely!

from there i added fresh cilantro, lime juice, garlic pepper, garlic salt, and regular salt. next, i started to mix it with my other favorite kitchen tool - the pampered chef chop and stir. it was blending nicely, but not enough. i wound up chopping it more in the food processor. i also added more of the seasonings to taste. it was hard to tell how much because its supposed to sit over night.

i put some in a bowl for josh, and the rest i mixed with corn for me! i am so excited. think i may do another batch tomorrow.

recipe (well, sort of):

4 roma tomatoes

3 large tomatoes

1 white onion

1 green bell pepper

2 jalapenos

fresh cilantro

lime juice

garlic pepper

garlic salt

table salt

- i boiled the tomatoes for 1.5 minutes then immersed them in cold water, the skin then peeled right off. i scraped the seeds out.

so so so excited to have this tomorrow after all the flavors have "married" over night!

we went to hueys after church and coffee duty with mom, diddy, and sue sue. diddy entertained colton while the rest of us ate and talked, lol. thanks diddy for coming along.

now the boys are out back playing. such a beautiful sunday. i am about to knock out some homework and maybe a few pinterest projects.

my wonderfully talented friend heather invited us to her house for a gno paint party. this is my 3rd or 4th time to go to one and it is so much fun. the last 2 parties i have attended, we all found our own canvas idea and ran with it. i love these parties b/c you move at your own pace, but have lots of people around to use for ideas and suggestions. rochelle found a really cool tree on etsy, so beth - roro- and myself decided to tackle it. mine is posted in the pic above this post. after i took the pic, i rubbed a raw umber wash over it to give it an aged look. wish i had pics of roro and beths, all of ours came out so completely different. it was a loveley night of paint, canvas, friends, great conversation, yummy food, and lovely adult beverages! thanks heather!
this week was coley's teachers birthday, the amazing ms debbie! he adores his teachers and we wanted to make this day special for her. he made her a card similar to the one posted above. colton was so focused, dot dots, stickers, stamps, and crayons. he was so proud once it was finished! the class celebrated with donut holes! we love you ms debbie.

today was baby matthew's 1st birthday party. we headed out to the bat cave with colton dressed in his best bat attire! i am in shock that he wore this mask. he's not a mask kinda kid.

about this amazing place!

work, school work, and other activities have made me slightly crazy! i long to laze around on the beach with my boys, or my mom, or even by myself! we were last in daytona this july. my parents treated us to plane tickets for our birthdays and spoiled us at their beautiful "home away from home."

i knew this semester would be the toughest yet, and i grow increasingly anxious about the ones to come. 1 more semester of field work and then a full semester of student teaching. im not so anxious about the actual coursework or the student teaching, but the thought of leaving my boy full time. i have been blessed beyond measure to have him attend the school i work at. same schedule, peeking in on him, dropping him off and picking him up. plus we are in a place where i know those women love him almost as much as i do. in an ideal world i could stay at hope with him, and even beyond coley....way beyond! the thought has left me sleepless and sick to my stomach. ugh, it sucks.

i am trying to focus on the word "content." i am trying to live a content live...a content life with god. lately it seems that my "jesus calling" has fallen in line with that too. thats the thing about "jesus calling" each meaning/word/passage applies to different people in different ways. i have learned and decided to live in contentment with god, and everything else will fall into place. spend more time with him...

this is part of the entry from sept 17: "you will not find my peace by engaging in excessive planning: attempting to control what will happen to you in the future." in the end only god know what is best for my and my family. i need to let go and let god.

so for now, thats what i plan to do. spend more time with god...

and occasionally dream of that wonderful place!

yup, you guessed it. pretty much one of our favorite places on earth! the pic of him is terrible, but he is happy with his icee and popcorn! we have backed off of our frequent trips to target, but manage to stop in at least once a week.

today was so exciting because of this....

woop woop, all new stuff in the dollar zone. just look at how packed the shelves are! i went today to check out treasure box goodies for my classroom. didn't find much of that, but saw some cute things for halloween.

i did score a great find, but didn't take a pic of a rug i purchased for my classroom. it will go in the block center and has a perfect "road" for racing cars! it was on sale for $20, normally $60 in the catalogue! yay!

We're back! I have taken almost a year long sabbatical from blogging...well, not so much a sabbatical-but life. We are no busier than any other family with at least 1 toddler, but it does make it hard to sit and type. I do intend to blog at least once a week from here on out, if for nothing more but for me to look back on as Colton gets older.

Here's a little snippet of where we each are now in this journey we call life...

Colton- will be 3 in November!

- weighs 40 lbs and is roughly 38 inches tall, at last check up 95% in height and weight

-his curls are gone, he has straight blonde hair

-he loves CARS the movie and everything related to it

-he is a great eater...when he wants to be (loves his fruits and veggies)

-can ride his tricycle "all by myself"

-LOVES school and all things/people related to it

-loves books/movies/tv

-is going to be "mr tato head" for halloween

-still sleeps in a crib (and thats fine with me)

-wants NOTHING to do with potty training

-has had a sudden "brave" streak, tubing at the lake-fair rides-riding the horse

-is the sweetest, smartest, fun-lovingist, funniest, and cutest little boy around!

Me (Jamie)-

-still in Grad school at the U of M (taking 9 hours, kicking my rear)

-teaching in the 4 year old program at Hope

-so ready for Tiger Basketball

-has loads of pinterest projects lined up

-is starting to enjoy running/jogging/walking

-training for the st jude half marathon in December alongside my mom, best friend, and many others who are close to me

-so excited for my brother's wedding, blessed to be gaining such and amazing sister

-loving spending my days and nights with all my boys...josh, colton, and rocko

-very excited for the biggest loser to start back

Josh-

-still working at fidelity investments and still liking it

-sometimes trains for the st jude half marathon and can still kick my rear in anything running related

-doesn't get to golf as much as he'd like

-does lots of playing in the floor with our favorite almost 3 year old

-is looking forward to Tiger basketball

-and lots of other things, just didn't quiz him about this before i posted!

Happy Punkin Party Day!

This past weekend we celebrated Coley's 2nd birthday with his friends. It was a punkin party at Priddy Farms. We had pizza, goldfish, pretzels, and yummy Kipp's cupcakes. The kids had a ball playing on all the forts and swingsets. Everyone went for a hayride, and the kids were able to choose their own punkin to take home. Some children, not Colton rode the barrel trains. It was a beautiful day, and everyone had a ball!

Last Saturday, we headed down to the Cooper Young Fesstival. Debbie and I have gone together for the last 5 years. Colton was a trooper and we had a blast. From there, we headed to meet the guys for the football game. My sweet friend, Christine, let us use her Tiger Lane pass. What and awesome experience. The area is beautiful and the Tigers won!

Well, colton says its swimmin weather so, we had to find some kind of pool device to let him explore and be free, but to also be safe. So here ya have it, even matches his new frof polliwalks!

It has been 6 months since I last blogged, so here is a little update in pics!

The above pic was taken at school, we took donut holes for Colton's class to share for his 1st birthday! I think that will be our school birthday tradition, who doesnt love a donut hole!

I have been SO BAD about blogging. Ill spare you the excuses and just say I've been slackin. You should see my house, lol. Colton has been battling an ear infection in his left ear for 30+ days. 3 rounds of antibiotics and still no relief. Poor guy.

10 months ago God blessed us with our sweet baby boy!
I can't believe he was ever so small!

Just look at him now!

He wears mostly 24 month clothing and weighs 27 lbs. He is crawling everywhere and pulling up on everything. Colton has 3 teeth and 3 more on the way! He loves to clap and play! Thank you Lord for blessing our lives with this sweet angel!

i went back to work in january after having colton. i only work 3 days a week, so far finding childcare has been a breeze! he usually stays with my mom (ellie), or with granddaddy, or granddaddy AND mimi. last week, coley went to hang with granddaddy. they play all day and go talk to the horses- blaze and cheyenne. isn't this pic the cutest! there is no denying this baby is his daddy's son--he looks like granddaddy too!

This is my sweet and adorable cousin Michael. We are 7 years apart in age and I adore him and his sweet spirit. Mikey is graduating next weekend from MTSU with a degree in Engineering. We just received the awesome news, from his oh so prod momma, that he has been named Engineering student of the year!!! From what I understand there is a banquet and they will showcase some of his projects. Congrats sweet boy! We love you!!! I am beaming for you!

we had to make a trip to the dr on friday afternoon. coley had been stuffy for a few days and it wasn't getting any better! he loves to lay on the bed and crinkle up all the paper. his other favorite past time is the mirror at the dr's office. they gave us a decongestant and sent us on our way! he is now 5 1/2 months old.

so, my bro and his buddy will hosted thier 2nd annual beer and crawfish fest this weekend. i am not a crawfish eater, but went to socialize. now, don't get me wrong-- i like crawfish, just don't know how to eat them (peel them) properly. well, thanks so my uncle kev and brandon--i am a pro now. i loved it! mixed in each batch were sausages, potatoes, corn, ham, mushrooms, artichokes, and of course--crawfish!

Coley took his first bath in the "bath ring" the other night. I went to the grocery and daddy bathed him. He like this so much better than the baby tub! He can splash and play with toys! Maybe the Easter Bunny will bring him some bath toys!

Tuesday, Coley and I were on Spring Break--they weather was amazing - so we packed up and headed to the zoo. What a fun day. Colton loved being outside and we loved it too. Thanks to Angie Ware we had a coupon for $4 bucks off of each of our admissions. Sweet! We would love to have a zoo membership so we could go all the time. He only slept for about 20 minutes and was happy all day! We even had to use sunscreen on his chubby legs! Can't wait to go back!

The temps have been crazy warm here in Memphis. This weekend was so nice, we were able to hang out downtown on a patio after the game Saturday. Flip Flop weather--yessss!

Flat Stanley Comes To Town

My cousin, MaryLou, is reading the book Flat Stanley for school. She lives in Charleston SC, but wanted for her "Flat Stanley" to visit us in Memphis. So, here he is having a blast with Colton.
Dad even took him to Orlando to get in some tanning at the pool.

Flat Stanley arrived in Memphis on the day of the snow, bet he doesn't see much of that in Charleston! Last I heard Flat Stanley is visiting Grandpa and Grandma in Gulf Shores. He ought to be really tan when he arrives back to MaryLou!

It has been a rough week here at the Mays house. Tuesday was Colton's 2nd day of school and he had a horrible day. Screamed all day long. It is so nice having him there with me because I am able to go down and check in on him, or even TRY to console him when he needs it. Well, even i was unable to console him. I took him to the Dr Wednesday after a long night of no sleep and lots of crying. They determined it wasn't his ears or his teeth. So what is it? Blisters and Ulcers lining his sweet little throat. He was in so much pain. It was a virus, so Dr. Miller prescribed some meds with Codine for pain. We also did some blood work, his white count was elevated, so they gave him a shot of recefrin (sp?) to knock out any looming infection. Wednesday night was just as rough if not worse than the night before. All the screaming and moaning irritated his throat even more. Thursday we returned for more blood work, the white count came back down--yay! bad news, we have to ride out the blisters. Poor guy was not eating, and lost almost a pound in just 2 days. We all know he loves his food, hehe. Well, each day has been better and he is eating again--even squash and sweet potatoes. Thanks for your prayers and concerns. We are all sleeping and happy again!

This was supposed to be his 16 week check up, but with the illness we will wait until the week after next. Can you believe that he Will be 18 weeks on Thursday?!?!?!?

SNOW!! Memphis received quite a snow storm yesterday after the game. The Mays packed up and headed to the Conways for a slumber party. I fixed "brinner" for everyone. It was nice and relaxing. This was what we woke up to the morning. Isn't Don and Debbie's backyard gorgeous?!?!?!

Colton had a wonderful first day at preschool. He seemed so happy. I was able to see him a few times throughout the day. He even at most of his squash and took 2 decent naps. Thanks to everyone who made his day (and mine) so special!

hehe, rocko was so confused. he always wants to be where colton is so, there he was. poor guy could not figure out what was going on! fun times!

colton is doing much better! ears are clear and we are down to 2 breathing treatments a day. colton starts preschool on March 3rd, i cant wait!!! he will come to school with me 2 days a week and will rotate between mom and the mays on fridays. we are so blessed to have the help! i have applied for a part time job in the evenings at baptist east. hopefully, that will work out.

so, this make me insane, but i am usually to lazy to do anything about it! there is "stuff" everywhere in our itty bitty pantry. its ridiculous, "we" just shove stuff in there with no rhyme or reason. i have about 9 boxes of pasta, b/c when i am at the store i never know what is in the black hole, aka the pantry!
ahhh, now there is some itty bitty pantry harmony! "stuff" is where it belongs. next i need to figure out where all the baby food is going to go, that is just around the corner!

so, let me fill ya in on our past week of crazy sickness. last tuesday i woke up a few times in the middle of the night to throw up. i thought it was something i ate...josh cooked dinner that night, sorry honey. coley also woke up sick with a bad cough and was extremely congested. i made an appointment with his pediatrician and headed on in to work. josh and mimi were going to take him to the dr. well, i felt really bad and wanted to take my baby to the dr, so my sweet friends at work were able to get my classroom covered. i went home to get the checkbook and found out that josh had started throwing up and was feeling EXTREMELY bad. i went and met mimi at the dr, colton had a cold and we were told to treat with tylenol. we went home, loaded josh up on fluids and went to stay with ellie. i was sick, but not as bad as josh! we both felt better the next day--not much improvement with colton, but hey, its just a cold...RIGHT!

jump to saturday, valentines morning, my sweet baby boy is hacking and wheezing. he could hardly catch his breath. laurelwood said to bring him in asap. we went right in - no wait! the nurse called the dr in and she immediately ordered a breathing treatment and a test for rsv---at this point i am in a complete panic. rsv? my baby wasn't a preemie--far from it. he has been so healthy. rsv? anyway--i calmed down for the rest of the exam. we administered the breathing treatment and waited for the rsv results. NEGATIVE! praise god! he has a bronchial infection and an ear infection--poor baby! they sent us home with the breathing machine--"mr. neb" and a prescription for albuterol and amoxicillin. i hate that he is going thru this but so thankful it is nothing worse!

what a memory for our first valentines day with colton! hope yours was less stressful than ours!

i can't believe how much he has changed!

well, we tried rice cereal from the spoon this week. he did ok, and if anything just seemed confused. it was pretty funny to watch. colton will be 14 weeks old tomorrow! we went to the dr yesterday for a bad cough, extreme stuffiness, and decreased appetite. turns out he has a virus -- tylenol and liquids are the only things we can do to make him more comfortable. he now weighs....drum roll please.......17.3 lbs. guess i need to start looking into the britax car seat--sooner rather than later.

josh and i were also sick yesterday, fever and the stomach bug. josh had it WAY worse than me. it ran its course pretty quickly--thank GOD! coley and i spent the night with mom so josh could sleep it off. we both feel SO much better today!

every year josh's company has an awards ceremony at the crescent club. it is a black tie affair, and all of the employees from chartwell come to memphis for it. they have offices in jonesboro, little rock, and somewhere else i cant think of right now. i went with him last year, but this year i had a wedding to attend. this pic was taken after memphis beat UT, so coley was still in his memphis gear. my 2 handsome boys!

mom and i took coley on his first road trip last week. some of you thought i was crazy for taking a 9 week old in the car for 7+ hours, but it was a great experience! we made it to gulf shores in less than 8 hours and only stopped twice. coley slept the whole way!
coley loved playing and snuggling with his great grandpa and grandma (nanny and pops)!

so glad we were able to go visit!

colton had his 8 week check up and shots on the 5th of january. he weighed a whopping 14.4 lbs and was 24 inches long. he tolerated the shots well and slept most of the day. we go back for more shots in early march. all is well!

my how things have changed for us! we spent new years eve with our new babies at the conways. lots of yummy food and wii! the babies were awake for most of the night, and even helped ring in the new year! thanks to the conways for hosting a fun-quiet night. happy new year!

this past year, three of my sweet friends from preschool moved out of state. nanci and her family have relocated to georgia, anne and her family to arizona, and stephanie's family to colorado. they all came home for christmas and we were able to get together at our favorite little mexican restaurant. it was so good to see my buddies!

We hope you all had a nice and relaxing holiday. Ours was busy, but nice and quiet--for the most part! We are still dealing with acid reflux, but he seems to have some relief. We go to the Dr on the 5th of January for his 2 month shots :( We will talk with Dr Miller more about the reflux at that time. Coley takes about 5 ounces of formula every 3 hours and 6 ounces with a bit of cereal before bed. He sleeps at night for about 4 hours at a time, and he is spending a lot more time awake during the day--which is so much fun. He loves his swing -- but really loves laying flat on his back.

Mom and I are taking him to visit my grandparents down on the coast on the 8th of January. My grandfather flew thru briefly when Colton was 10 days old and was able to visit for an hour or so. Can't wait for my grandma to meet him!

I start back to school on the 6th, and believe it or not, I am really excited to get back to work. i will miss my sweet boy so much, but it is only for a few hours 3 days a week! I think it will be good for both of us.

this! ahh, the serene sound of a running jacuzzi tub. when colton is hysterical--this is our new saving grace! he was out like a light within 2 minutes of running the water. we are so thankful to lisa, shelly, and all the other "wise" ladies from the kitchen for teaching me this trick. colton can be screaming his head off and as soon as you enter the bathroom with the water running, he is silent!
